Here you will gain a deeper understanding of how your thoughts and beliefs are influencing your emotions, behaviors, and performance. Fundamentally, this is about realising that it is not the situation that causes unhelpful reactions, it is your view of the situation that leads to unhelpful reactions. Further, there are specific thoughts and beliefs that are particularly problematic.
The Smarter Thinking Profile represents the first step of Smarter Thinking, where you gain a detailed understanding of your attitudes towards performance. Following this insight, you can take greater control of your own thinking. Smarter Thinking encourages individuals to take responsibility for their own thoughts, feelings, and actions.
What The Profile Measures
The Smarter Thinking Profile measures patterns of rigid, extreme, and illogical beliefs. The questions on the Smarter Thinking Profile are in relation to 10 distinct performance areas you may encounter. Each of the 10 performance areas represents a distinct aspect of the world in which you perform.
For each of the 10 performance areas, we measured 4 types of beliefs. These beliefs reflect rigid, extreme and illogical ways of thinking.

The Smarter Thinking Process
The reappraise step is the second step to becoming a Smarter Thinker. Here, you will learn how to challenge your current problematic thoughts and beliefs. Specifically, you will go through a rigorous process of testing your thoughts and beliefs on evidential, logical, and pragmatic grounds. This is very challenging, but is a highly valuable and powerful process of belief change.
The replace step is the third step to becoming a Smarter Thinker. Now, you develop new and effective thoughts and beliefs in place of the old and ineffective ones that you challenged in step 2. The key here is to develop strong new beliefs based on evidence, logic, and pragmatics. This is a very creative process that gives you the chance to take charge of your reactions to adverse situations.
The reinforce step is the fourth step to becoming a Smarter Thinker. At this point, you fully commit to the new thoughts and beliefs you have developed at step 3. Real long-term change is about imbedding your effective thoughts and beliefs into your philosophy of life. This takes time, but with some guidance, you can approach, and react to, tough situations in the most effective way.
